The purpose of this calculator is to determine one of two values: the maximum number of conductors (wires) that can fit into a given type and size of raceway, or the minimum trade size of a raceway that is required for a given combination of conductors (wires). All calculations are based on the National Electrical Code®.

INFO:
Conductor Material: Copper is assumed to be concentric and dimensions used are based on NEC Chapter 9 Table 5. Aluminum conductors are assumed to be compact and are based on NEC Chapter 9 Table 5a. Aluminum calculations can also be used for compact copper conductors, as both are based on NEC Chapter 9 Table 5a. Conductors insulated with RHH, RHW, RHW-2 are without outer covering. Bare copper conductors are based on concentric stranding and values are taken from NEC Chapter 9 Table 8. Bare aluminum conductors are based on compact stranding and values are taken from NEC Chapter 9 Table 5a.

Note:
Some variations may exist between the Maximum Conductors and Minimum Size Raceway calculations due to calculation rounding differences.
